On a dual-SIM phone keep your home line for calls and texts, and use the travel eSIM for mobile data.

Avoid roaming charges
Turn data roaming off for your home line and on for the travel eSIM.

Stay reachable
WhatsApp keeps your number. If your home carrier offers Wi-Fi calling, turn it on to take calls over the eSIM’s data.
Calls and texts to your home number still come through your home carrier and may cost money abroad. Check with them.
